Ugh. Apathy is so cowardly. If you’re not getting kicked out of your high school classrooms at least once a semester, you’re doing it wrong.
I really hate the system we’ve got where kids stare at their desks.
makes me feel better about the incredible number of times i got pulled out of class and ripped apart in front of the big board with all my newspaper articles pinned to it.
you know what nobody tells you at school? that you’re allowed to expect better. you’re ALWAYS allowed to expect better. if you’re doing double english and you’re so bored that you’ve started writing out a formula for how much time on average the class wastes on trying to make it through an episode of ‘homes under the hammer’. if you’re sitting in higher french translating passages from twilight into verlan because you’ve finished all the stupid worksheets. if you ripped up another bog-standard essay plan in front of the department head. if you’re sitting in history thinking nothing at all. if you’re doing crosswords because your primary school teacher won’t let you write stories.
you deserve better. you deserve so much better than six years or twelve years or one year of miserable, joyless crap. because you can be the most socially awkward, anxious, unhappy shithead in the world, but you deserve to learn, and you deserve to be passionate and treated with passion, and you ought to be standing on the fucking desks telling them all so.
there’s this teacher in my school that i hate and my best friend loves him and doesn’t understand why i dislike him so much even though i’ve never had him. and it’s because i can’t like a teacher who kicks kids out of class for disagreeing with him. my other friend was kicked out of her semester class of leadership 12 times. in one semester.
i can’t like a teacher who will actively teach about things a student doesn’t agree on and then kicks her out for speaking out. school is supposed to teach you how to think for yourself. not how to think like everyone else.
